Digestive Health Alliance Advocacy Day

On June 19, I joined Advocates from the Digestive Health Alliance (DHA) and International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD) on Capitol Hill. We met with congressional and senatorial staff to ask for their support of the Functional Gastrointestinal & Motility Disorders Research Enhancement Act of 2013 (H.R. 842)

You can also help by emailing your member of the U.S. House of Representatives in support of the Functional Gastrointestinal & Motility Disorders Research Enhancement Act of 2013 (H.R. 842). When you reach out as a constituent, you put a face on those affected by functional GI and motility disorders; you add meaning to what could be just another piece of legislation coming across a desk.

Thank you for your support!

Running with Grief: Identical Twins Run Together to Remember

It's been almost one year since our grandma "GG" died suddenly from cancer on July 16, 2012. I'm grateful that I continued to run through my grief. I'm also grateful I could run with Team Lemon to support Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

I'm in the process of writing a post on the subject of running through grief. If running has helped you cope with grief and you are willing to share your story, please comment below. All comments must be approved before they are published, so if you'd prefer to keep your comment private, just let me know and it won't be published.

Grief is not the process of forgetting.
Grief is the process of remembering,
with less pain and more joy.

One step at a time...

Alex's Original Lemonade Stand

Alex's "Original" Lemonade Stand was held on Saturday, June 8 at Penn Wynne Elementary School. Over $116, 000 was raised to fight childhood cancer. Thanks to all who made contributions to make a difference for children with cancer. And, thank you Alex for inspiring so many!
I was so grateful to be there to participate in the Butterfly Release. I released my butterfly in memory of Alex and all children who have died too soon.

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment
Its glory and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed
We feel lucky to have seen it
